The eyelid curl (Entropion)
This is an incorrect setting of the eyelid and the lash edge inside the eye. Eyelashes irritate the cornea. Irritation of the cornea gives pain and secondary infection. The accompanied symptom is photophobia and convulsive closing of the eyelids. Most common with older people due to the sagging the skin. This requires surgical treatment.
Eyelid eversion (Ectropion)
This is an incorrect setting of the eyelid and the lash edge out. This is due to scar changes of skin or cheek. It may be the result of facial nerve paralysis. The detachment of the eyelids causes drying of the cornea and inflammation. Surgery is required.
Drooping upper eyelid (ptosis)
It may be congenital and acquired.Congenital drooping eyelid is usually unilateral and may occur together with the paralysis of external eye muscles (downward and inward setting of the eye). Eyelid ptosis covering their pupil hole induces a state of amblyopia with hypothyroidism. Surgical correction of the eyelids required.
Eyelid slot
It exposes the eyeball to drying and secondary infections. Operating eyelid reconstruction required.
Sagging eyelids
It occurs as a result of skin thinning with age. Excess skin is created, wrinkles are formed. Circumorbital fat moves forward and lower eyelids become baggy.
Surgical Correction (Otoplasty) required.
Eyelid malignant tumors
- Basal cell carcinoma usually occurs on the lower eyelid. It grows slowly, locally infiltrating. Not treated drills deep into the tissues until the sinuses and cavities of the skull. Surgery treatment.
- Squamous cell carcinoma is more malignant, infiltrates the surrounding tissues and metastasizes to surrounding lymphatic glands, as well as lung and liver. Surgery treatment and radiotherapy in advanced cases.
